Japan’ Toyota Motor Corp.launched its concept of its small car, Etios, at the Auto Expo in New Delhi specially for the indian market. Its price will be in the range of 4.5 to 5.5 lakhs in indian Rupees.The Toyota Etios will provide a strong competion to Maruti’s swift, Volkswagon polo Fiat’s Punto, Hyundai’s i20 and Skoda Fabia.

The company would launch both hatchback and sedan under the Etios series with 1.2 litres and 1.5 litres petrol engines respectively.

With the introduction of the Etios we will enter the mass volume segment. We are looking at a sales volume of 70,000 (cars) in the first year,” said Hiroshi Nakagawa, managing director of Toyota Kirloskar.

Toyota Kirloskar, which is 89% owned by Toyota and the remainder by India’s Kirloskar group, currently produces the Innova multipurpose vehicle, the Corolla sedan and the Fortuner SUV at its factory outside Bangalore.

Toyota motors launched its all new Prado diesel Landcruiser in India equipped with a 3.0 litre diesel engine, adoption of Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System for driving stability at city and highway speeds. It has features like 3 zone automatic climate control, multi-information display and DAC (Down-hill Assist Control) and VSC (Vehicle Stability Control).

Prado diesel  comes in 5 different colours like white pearl crystal shine, silver metallic, grey metallic, greyish blue metallic and black.  Its ex-showroom price is Rs 52.74 lakh in Bangalore and its price may vary from state to state in India.

Hiroshi Nagakawa, Managing Director TKM told reporters that Prado has sold over 1.56 million units in over 170 countries so far and that customer response in India since its launch in 2004 has exceeded expectations. “We are looking at 10 per cent market share in the SUV segment with the launch of the new diesel version”.

The redesigned Prado would appeal to both genuine SUV buyers and also car owners who are looking to upgrade manoeuvrability with interior luxury, he said.

“Our target audience is active businessmen, industrialists and socialities who want to make a style statement and are in the 35-45 year age group”, Sandeep Singh, Deputy Managing Director TKM said.

“We looking at all major metro cities like Mumbai, Bangalore and Kochi and states of Karnataka, Punjab and Andhra Pradesh for our sales”, Singh said. “Bangalore is a big market for us and we are looking at a sale of 10-15 vehicles per annum.”
